The Heart Behind Shalom B Foundation
Ivorine Brown, founder of the Shalom B Foundation, has devoted more than 35 years to the nursing profession, serving patients and families with compassion, skill, and dedication. As a native New Yorker raised in the Bronx, Ivorine recognized early in life that helping others was part of her purpose.
Although she briefly considered following her mother’s path into early childhood education, Ivorine ultimately felt called to nursing. She pursued this calling by earning both a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing Education, building a strong academic and professional foundation that would guide her through a long and purpose driven career.
Over the years, she has worked in a variety of healthcare settings, including surgical nursing, home health care, staff development, quality assurance, case management in long-term care, and then transitioning into care management in private health insurance, caregiver support services. These experiences allowed her to witness the resilience of patients and families while also gaining a deep understanding that she was called to do more with her diversified experience to help others.

The Inspiration Behind Shalom B Foundation

Throughout her career, Ivorine observed something that many people outside the profession rarely see. While nurses are known for their compassion and dedication to caring for others, many of them quietly carry their own personal and financial struggles.
Nurses often serve as pillars of strength for patients, families, and healthcare teams, yet when they face hardship themselves, they may feel reluctant or even ashamed to ask for help. Ivorine witnessed colleagues navigating difficult situations with very few places to turn for support.
These experiences deeply impacted her and ultimately inspired the creation of the Shalom B Foundation. The foundation was born from the belief that those who dedicate their lives to caring for others should never have to face hardship alone. Through this organization, Ivorine hopes to provide practical relief, encouragement, and a sense of community for nurses who may be going through difficult seasons in their lives.
